{"id":1405,"date":"2023-10-20T15:37:10","date_gmt":"2023-10-20T20:37:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vitevitresjacques.com\/?p=1405"},"modified":"2023-10-20T15:37:10","modified_gmt":"2023-10-20T20:37:10","slug":"toyota-and-its-redesigned-gr86","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vitevitresjacques.com\/en\/toyota-and-its-redesigned-gr86\/","title":{"rendered":"TOYOTA and its redesigned GR86"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Almost five months after&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/driving.ca\/subaru\/reviews\/preview\/first-look-2022-subaru-brz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Subaru unveiled its all-new 2022 BRZ<\/a>, Toyota has taken the wraps off its new GR 86 in Japan. The two companies have once again collaborated to take this RWD and relatively low-priced sports car into its next generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This time around, its name incorporates GR, for Toyota Gazoo Racing. It follows the company\u2019s\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/driving.ca\/toyota\/supra\" target=\"_blank\">GR Supra<\/a>\u00a0and also the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/driving.ca\/toyota\/auto-news\/news\/toyotas-bringing-a-new-hot-hatch-to-the-u-s-and-it-may-rock-257-horsepower\" target=\"_blank\">GR Yaris<\/a>, a hot hatch that \u2013 unfortunately \u2013 isn\u2019t scheduled to come to North America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 86 was initially sold here as the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/driving.ca\/tag\/scion-fr-s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Scion FR-S<\/a>&nbsp;when it launched for 2012. When the Scion sub-brand was discontinued, the car reverted to its global-market 86 name. The car was jointly developed by the two companies \u2013&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/driving.ca\/chevrolet\/features\/feature-story\/wait-so-who-makes-that-a-breakdown-of-which-automakers-own-which-brands\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Toyota owns a stake in Subaru<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 but it\u2019s mostly Subaru under the skin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means a Subaru horizontally-opposed \u201cboxer\u201d four-cylinder engine, but this time it\u2019s a 2.4L, rather than the current 2.0L. That engine makes 205 horsepower, while the 2.4L is rated at 232 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. Transmission choices are a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Toyota claims the car\u2019s zero-to-100 km\/h acceleration has shaved to 6.3 seconds, down from 7.4 seconds, and engine response has been improved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" src=\"https:\/\/vitevitresjacques.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/20210405-01-10-1617633775.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1407\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vitevitresjacques.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/20210405-01-10-1617633775.jpg 640w, https:\/\/vitevitresjacques.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/20210405-01-10-1617633775-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Those are the Japanese-market specifications, and we\u2019ll likely get a slight modification when it arrives here.
